On March 26, Tiburon Peninsula Traffic Alliance sent a letter to Caltrans urging it to adjust plans for the SR131 project to ensure school bus service remains uninterrupted. The proposed bike lanes would remove four essential Yellow Bus stops between Blackfield Drive and Trestle Glen, impacting bus riders and potentially increasing congestion on Tiburon Boulevard.
TPTA highlights that the current design would force school buses to cross or block bike lanes, which safety regulations do not permit. While TPTA supports bike and pedestrian infrastructure enhancements, these should not come at the expense of proven congestion solutions.
TPTA’s letter follows a similar one from Marin Transit, stressing its concerns about the proposed bike lanes’ impact on public transit stops throughout the Tiburon corridor.
